Wildflower Wednesday

Updated: Nov 3, 2023

In remembrance of my recent trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, this week’s Wildflower Wednesday feature flower is the Spotted Knapweed.

Spotted Knapweed is often mistaken for Thistle but unlike Thistles, Knapweed flowers are soft.

It is found in poor soils and sandy areas often by the shore of Lake Superior.

This dainty looking flower is the most invasive plant in Michigan.

Knapweed is poisonous to other plants, creating barren areas where only will Knapweed grow.
