Hi, I’m Kirsten, a Madison, Wisconsin based mixed media artist working in photography and encaustic.
My passion lies in creating art that portrays the magic and mystery in the ephemeral, ethereal life of the natural world. I often photograph macro and print large, highlighting the small, overlooked beauty in our natural world.
I love to push the boundaries of photography by using unconventional techniques such as free lensing, modified vintage lenses and alternative printing methods to create my images. I reintroduce natural materials into my pieces by fusing layers of pine resin, beeswax, and pigment onto the printed images, bringing them back to life with texture, depth, and translucency.
My goal is to create art that inspires wonder, joy, and appreciation of our natural world with the intention of growing a collective desire to help protect and preserve our natural environment.
My interest in art started at a young age, and for as long as I can remember I found solace in creating art. After raising a family and having a career in the nonprofit world I started pursuing art professionally. For the past 10 years I have been a professional photographer and mixed media artist working with alternative photoprint and encaustics.
I am a juried member of the the 14 South Artist group with pieces displayed at the Oregon Art Center.
